Vital Software for Preserving Camano’s History
Mission
To enrich the lives of Camano Island residents and visitors by preserving the 1906 one-room schoolhouse and vintage Fire Hall, to exhibit Camano Island history while providing a vibrant gathering place for educational and cultural activities for all.
Description of Services
While preserving these historic buildings is important, the Schoolhouse has become a vibrant community gathering place where educational classes of all kinds are held. Our motto is, “The Old School is now the New School.” In addition, preserving and exhibiting Camano Island’s history is an important part of the services provided, including field trips for all the S/C fourth grade students.
We have history lectures and performances, art shows, musical performances, and these events: the Camano Heritage Preservation Award Brunch, the Camano Island Radio Theater, the annual S/C Historic Sites Tour, and the annual Lighting of the Schoolhouse and Christmas tree. A new S/C Fire Department Museum is being developed to honor firefighters and EMTs.
